Last year, we regularly looked at how many papers had been published that had ‘ChatGPT’ in the title. See, for example. https://x.com/fake_journals/status/1738469538969121100.
The graphic shows the current status as at 28 Jun 2024. It shows that four papers were published in 2022. In 2023, 2,660 papers were published and this year, so far, 2,127 papers have been published. There has even been one paper published in 2025.
It won’t be too long before the number of papers published in 2024 passes the number published in 2023, bearing in mind we are only a little over half way through 2024.
Some statistics
🔴In 2023, the 2,660 papers represents 7.29 papers being published each day.
🔴We are 180 days into 2024 so, given the 2,127 papers that have been published, this represents 11.82 papers being published each day.
