23 authors have published more than one article every day in 2024
At various points during the year, we have looked at who has published a lot of papers, or “hyper productive authors” as we have called them.
Our latest look extracted data on 01 Nov 2024, essentially up to 31 Oct 2024.
Left Hand Side of Table
The left hand side of the header image shows all the authors that have published more than 305 articles this year.
305 days is chosen as 31 Oct 2024 is 305 days through the year, so if somebody has published more than this number of articles in 2024, it means that they have published more than one article each day.
The data comes from Scopus and and it includes all articles types. The Scopus search term is ‘PUBYEAR = 2024‘ and then we just took all the authors that had more than 305 articles.
When we have posted these type of posts in the past, we were criticised as we included all article types. We hold the view that it’s indexed in Scopus, so we included all articles.
Right Hand Side of Table
However, we recognise that some of the articles were “Letters” (for example) which may not be recognised as a “proper” article.
We know, for example, that when QS Ranking extracts articles from Scopus, it disregards letters. So, we carried out another search that only looked at articles that were of type ‘article’. The Scopus search term is ‘PUBYEAR = 2024 AND ( LIMIT-TO ( DOCTYPE , “ar” ) )’.
The table on the right hand side of the header image shows this data. We have listed the same number of authors as shown in the left hand table. Nobody has published an ‘article’ every day in 2024, but not far from it. The top listed author (Tanihuchi) has published 269 “proper” articles. That is, 0.88 articles each day.
